The next fight card on the UFC schedule is nearly upon us. The UFC Edmonton card takes place Saturday, November 2, at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In the main event, former UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno faces Amir Albazi. Meanwhile, in the evening’s co-main event, former UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas meets Erin Blanchfield in a flyweight contest. UFC Edmonton streams on ESPN+, with the main card starting at 8:00 p.m. ET. The preliminary card is on the same streaming service, starting at 5:30 p.m. ET. Moreno (21-8-2) is the No. 2 fighter in the official UFC flyweight rankings. The 30-year-old is a former two-time UFC 125-pound champion. Moreno’s first title reign began in June 2021 with a submission win over Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 263. He returned the title to Figueiredo in their UFC 270 rematch, losing that January 2022 contest via decision. Moreno then won the interim flyweight belt in July 2022 with a UFC 277 TKO triumph over Kai Kara-France. In January 2023, Moreno regained the undisputed UFC title from Figueiredo with a TKO victory at UFC 283. Like his first title run, Moreno’s second stint with the 125-pound ended without him making a successful defense. Alexandre Pantoja took the belt from him in July 2023 via split decision. The ex-champ then lost a split decision to Brandon Royval in February. Moreno has not fought since then. Amir Albazi (17-1) enters Saturday’s UFC Fight Night main event as the No. 3 fighter in the UFC’s flyweight division. Albazi made his UFC debut as a short-notice replacement in a bantamweight scrap against Malcolm Gordon in July 2020. Albazi won that matchup via submission. He then dropped to flyweight for his next outing, a January 2021 decision win over Zhalgas Zhumagulov. Today, Albazi is a perfect 5-0 with the UFC. He is coming off a June 2023 split-decision win over Kai Kara-France in a UFC on ESPN main event fight card. The UFC initially booked Moreno vs. Albazi for February of this year, but Albazi was forced from that card due to a neck injury. At the time, Albazi wrote on Twitter, “I’m out of the fight against Moreno 24th of February. I have been dealing with a serious neck injury the past weeks. After some scans the UFC doctors decided to pull me out of the fight immediately. I want to apologize to the fans and the UFC. I will be back inshallah.” In July, Albazi provided an update on his status, “I’ll be ready to go in September, so that’s the plan,” Albazi told MMA Junkie Radio. “I’m almost fully healed. I would say I’m 85 percent, 90 percent back to fighting. So, I can’t wait. It’s been a tough journey so far. I had two surgeries back to back. I’m just excited, motivated, and ready to come back in the cage and do what I do best.” “It’s been so, so hard to deal with this,” Albazi added. “I had a heart surgery back in November actually, so imagine coming out of a heart surgery, start training, getting into a camp, fighting Moreno for the next title contender, and then I get this, and I have to do another surgery for my neck. “So, I was feeling like it was hitting me everywhere where I see guys just fighting and fighting and fighting. But this just motivates me to get back in and actually be more active than ever.” UFC 308 Results: Winners And Losers From Topuria Vs.
