The Kansas City Chiefs can breathe a deep sigh of relief. On Monday, future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce officially signed his new contract at the Chiefs' facility and sent a very Kelce-esque message to Chiefs fans before the ink dried. "Chiefs Kingdom! Let's go, baby!" Kelce said in this video. "It's official. I'm excited for 2026 and just excited to put on a Chiefs uniform in front of you guys again. Let's get Arrowhead rockin', baby. We'll see you guys in a few months." While Kelce was signing his contract, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said, "You got company." It was Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on FaceTime, wishing Kelce congratulations. "Patricio!" Kelce said. "Let's go, baby! Home sweet home." "Home sweet home," Mahomes said. "Look at the beard, too, man. That man is ready to go." The Chiefs captioned the video, "QB1 got his bestie back." Since Mahomes became the Chiefs' starting quarterback in 2018, Mahomes and Kelce have had an unprecedented connection. Last October, Mahomes and Kelce became the 10th quarterback-receiver duo with 75 touchdowns (via NFL Research). Mahomes is the Chiefs' all-time leading passer in yards (35,939) and touchdowns (267), and Kelce is the franchise leader in career yards in receptions (1,080), yards (13,002), and touchdowns (82). The Chiefs have won three Super Bowls, including back-to-back championships in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. They became the first back-to-back defending champions to appear in a third straight Super Bowl and attempt a three-peat, but the Philadelphia Eagles routed Kansas City, 40-22, in February 2025. Last season, the magic ran out. Everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong for the Chiefs — epitomized by Mahomes tearing his ACL and LCL on Dec. 14. Kansas City finished 6-11, the Chiefs' first sub-.500 record since 2012. With Kelce back in the building and Mahomes reportedly on pace to start Week 1, there's always a chance the magic returns to Arrowhead in 2026.
