A former Alabama high school girls’ basketball coach faces 32 criminal counts tied to alleged sexual offenses with a student.
Cullman County authorities arrested Paige Adams, 35, on Tuesday following a 32-count grand jury indictment, CBS 42 reported. The charges include one count alleging she engaged in a sex act with a student, one count of sexual contact with a student under 19, and 30 counts of distributing obscene material to a student.
“This 32-count grand jury indictment speaks for itself,” Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker told CBS 42. (RELATED: REPORT: Olympian’s Former Coach Allegedly Commits Sex Crime With Minor Athlete)
Court records made public Wednesday show Adams allegedly transmitted obscene material to the student at least 28 times between Feb. 13 and March 9, CBS 42 reported. On two occasions March 16, she allegedly asked the student to send her sexually explicit material.
Adams left Cold Springs High School on March 25 after the school district received a complaint, CBS 42 reported. “This is the first formal complaint I have received regarding this employee,” Superintendent Shane Barnette said. “As soon as the concern was brought forward, an investigation was immediately initiated. The employee chose to resign at that time.”
Barnette had previously praised Adams as “a great role model for the young people of Cullman County,” according to 1819 News.
Adams coached just one season at Cold Springs, posting a 23-11 record and reaching the AHSAA 2A state title game, CBS 42 reported. She also left Holly Pond High School after only one season in 2017.
Adams posted a $225,000 bond following her arrest and must wear an electronic monitor, Fox News reported.
Her arraignment is set for May 22, CBS 42 reported. Her husband, Drew Adams, coaches the boys’ team at Cold Springs and filed for divorce on April 6. He is seeking sole custody of their child.
