A MAN has been stabbed to death – with cops launching a murder investigation and arresting a suspect. The victim, in his 40s, was found in the centre of Wimbledon, London, in the early hours of Sunday. The man, who has not been named, had stab wounds and was treated at the scene on The Broadway. Met officers, as well as paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, responded to emergency calls at 00.37am. The force said in a statement: “Despite their efforts, he died shortly after their arrival. “His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.” A man in his 30s was later arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. The force added: “This is being treated as an isolated incident. “Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation and are not seeking anyone else at this stage.” Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family. “This is a shocking act of violence in the heart of a busy town, and we understand the impact this will have on the local community. “While we have made an arrest, we still need anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to come forward. No detail is too small.” Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting CAD 244/22FEB.
