If Juan Soto is asking questions about the Yankees’ talent pipeline, what are the answers?

Does he simply want to go to the team that pays him the most? (In which case, maybe Steve Cohen’s Mets have the edge.) Does he value his legacy above all? (The Yankees would have a strong argument.) Does he want to join the team with the most talent? (The Dodgers lurk.) How about the chance to turn around a franchise that, if done successfully, would make him a legend in its city? (The Red Sox, Blue Jays and Phillies all apply.) We may have learned a bit more about Soto’s priorities Wednesday, when Hal Steinbrenner revealed a rare detail from the Yankees’ meeting with Soto and agent Scott Boras in Southern California: Soto wanted to know about the player-development pipeline. “He didn’t really spend any time in our player-development complex,” Steinbrenner said at the Owners Meetings in Midtown. “So I think he’s probably asking this of all the clubs. I’m sure he just wants to know about the different systems and about the different players, the pipeline and all that.”
