President-elect Donald Trump announced that Tilman Fertitta, owner of the NBA Houston Rockets team will serve as the U.S. ambassador to Italy.
“Tilman is an accomplished businessman, who has founded and built one of our Country’s premier entertainment and real estate companies, employing approximately 50,000 Americans,” Trump wrote in a Saturday Truth Social post.
Fertitta owns more than 600 properties in 36 states and in over 15 countries under his company restaurant and hospitality company Landry’s. He also manages companies in the gaming and casino industries.
“Tilman has a long history of giving back to the community through numerous philanthropic initiatives, which include children’s charities, Law Enforcement, and the medical community,” Trump added.
“Additionally, Tilman is the longest serving Chairman of the Board of Regents for the University of Houston.”
Fertitta will need to be confirmed by the Senate following his appointment.
