BREAKDOWN: At JetBlue Park, the Red Sox scored nine runs in the sixth to blow it open. Second baseman Mikey Romero had a two-way day, rocketing an RBI triple into the triangle and making a slick, backhanded stop on the shortstop side of the bag. Ronald Rosario threw out just one of six attempted base stealers from behind the plate but homered at it. Sox starter Tyler Uberstine allowed one earned run and struck out three in 1⅓ innings. The Huskies took fleeting leads on an RBI single from Ryan Gerety (Franklin) in the first inning and a single and two steals from Anthony Ruggiero (Mendon) in the second. Northeastern starter Robbie O’Connor (Sudbury) held the Sox to one run in two innings.
NEXT: In their Grapefruit League opener, the Sox will play the Twins at Hammond Stadium on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. Lefthander Payton Tolle will start — the first Grapefruit game of his career — opposite Twins righthander Joe Ryan, a Sox trade target last summer. The game will be on NESN. Tim Healey can be reached at timothy.healey@globe.com. Follow him @timbhealey.
