Former Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is crying foul against “shameful” and “evil” anti-ICE protestors. Quote-tweeting a Fox News article referencing a protest insde of a Minnesota church this weekend, Teixeira didn’t mince words when proclaiming this an assault on faith and law enforcement. “This is shameful and not a battle of conservatives versus liberals. This is a battle of good versus evil,” Teixeira wrote on X/Twitter. “Praying for ICE and the Christian community in Minnesota.” On Saturday, anti-ICE protesters disrupted a Sunday worship service at Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. They targeted this specific church because one of its pastors, David Easterwood, is allegedly the acting director of the local ICE field office. The demonstrators chanted “ICE out” and “Justice for Renee Good,” referencing a woman recently killed in an ICE-involved shooting, forcing the service to end early. In response, the Trump administration launched a civil rights investigation into potential violations of the FACE Act, according to Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon on X/Twitter. On Aug. 28, Teixeira announced that he’d be running in Texas’s 21st Congressional District, where Rep. Chip Roy will not seek re-election as he runs for Texas Attorney General. Teixeira is a Maryland native who currently lives in the Austin area. He spent the first four-plus years of his major-league career with the Texas Rangers. The three-time All-Star concluded his career with eight years on the Yankees, winning a World Series in 2009. Teixeira retired in 2016 after a 14-year career in which he hit .268 with a .869 OPS and 409 home runs.
