It's safe to say the most heartbreaking loss this NFL postseason goes to the Buffalo Bills, who lost a harsh overtime matchup. The Bills took on the Denver Broncos and did not let up as both teams were in a back-and-forth game.
Buffalo started hot in the first quarter, but Denver found a quick comeback to take the lead by halftime, 20-10. The Broncos continued to extend their lead, before the Bills put up 13 points in the fourth to send it into overtime.
Both teams couldn't get the job done the first time around in overtime, but the Broncos eventually found a spark with a controversial interception after Brandin Cooks dropped a crucial pass that would've set the Bills up for a game-winning field goal.
During the overtime game, Broncos quarterback Bo Nix fractured his ankle. Before the injury, he had a fantastic day going 26-of-46 for 279 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
Josh Allen, deemed "Superman" in previous years for his playmaking ability in crunch time, put up 25 completions for 283 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
ESPN Analyst Rex Ryan praised the quarterback and team with unwavering confidence they'll return to the postseason.
"Josh Allen, I guarantee you, there are two plays in this game that he wishes he had back, and when you're playing at this level, those moments matter," Ryan said.
One of those plays was the critical interception in overtime, to which Ryan corrected the team.
"That throw right there is under thrown. He normally drives that ball, and I know that's one he wishes he could have back," Ryan said.
The loss ultimately comes down to a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes by Allen. There was also a costly sequence just before halftime, a moment that ended up looming as the game wore on.
Despite those issues, the team remains unchanged and Buffalo's window remains open because of their talented quarterback.
"You're not even going to be close to playing in these types of games without Josh Allen, and that's why Buffalo will be back – because of that quarterback right there," Ryan said.
