Daniil Medvedev caught in Miami Open travel chaos after being stuck in Dubai

Daniil Medvedev has been hit with another travel headache ahead of the Miami Open, after having been left stuck in the Middle East earlier this month. He had been playing at the Dubai Tennis Championships when the United States and Israel launched a combined assault on Iran, prompting the Iranian military to retaliate by striking American bases across the Middle East. Several neighbouring regions, including Dubai, were hit by Iranian strikes which led to the closure of airspaces throughout the Gulf region. As a result, Medvedev and several other players were left stuck in the region with no means of leaving. The ATP discussed alternative travel options, including a six-hour drive to Oman and a ten-hour drive to the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh. He went on to reach the final, losing at the hands of Jannik Sinner, and has since experienced more travel chaos on his way to Florida for the Miami Open. Shortly after arriving, Medvedev took to X (formerly Twitter) with a message for United Airlines that his luggage was nowhere to be seen. He wrote: "Hi @united... need a little help. Flew from PSP [Palm Springs International Airport] to Florida yesterday and none of my bags arrived. Kind of need them to play in the @MiamiOpen... can you help?" Medvedev later posted an update, confirming that his luggage had finally turned up. However, the same couldn't be said for several members of his team. "Ok, little update," he added. "My bags have now arrived. Thank you @united. But can we please also make sure the people on my team get their bags." Speaking after his eventual defeat to Sinner, the Russian said: "I would like to congratulate Jannik. Amazing tennis, tough to play against you. I tried my best, it was a good match, but big congrats to you for everything you’re doing. "Whenever you play Carlos, I love to see it. Now I was happy to not let Carlos play you again! But love watching you guys, love what you do, go for it, continue winning, never stop until you achieve as well. "I would like to thank my team sitting there. I will try better next time, but good week in general after especially a long travel, so thanks a lot guys!
