CONOR MCGREGOR has revealed a surprising aspect of his latest round of negotiations with the UFC.
The Irishman returns to the cage next month to rematch Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 329 in Las Vegas following a FIVE-YEAR layoff.
Earlier this year, it looked like getting the former two-division champion back in action would be difficult as he claimed his contract with the UFC was “ESSENTIALLY VOID” since they ditched their pay-per-view model.
Both parties, however, reached a mutually beneficial agreement after beginning talks in March.
McGregor, 37, went into the negotiations with TWO fights left on the deal he signed before his 2018 grudge match with Khabib Nurmagomedov in October 2018.
It was assumed that the booking of a fight with Holloway would include an extension to his contract.
During an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, he said: “No [they didn’t try to extend me]. I’m happy, I’m happy to an extent.
“There’s a lot more there [in the future], I hope it’s with the UFC. I hope we come to something, I hope I get on it even more.
“I hope I can prove even more so what I’m all about. It wasn’t that difficult, we met in the middle. We got a good, juicy one.

“Was it what my worth is? Probably not. Was it what they’d want to offer? Definitely not, definitely not.”
McGregor’s comeback clash with Holloway will be his first fight since breaking his left leg in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier.
The latter portion of his fighting career, in which he became the UFC’s first simultaneous two-weight world champion, has been plagued by inactivity.
But he’s seemingly set to make a quick return to the cage next year.
He said: “Right now I am contracted, and I have both dates I have both dates for my fights.
“I have 11 July. When would you think they would put me back in?
“When would you think they would put me back in? April 2027. It’s almost a year later, that’s ridiculous to me. I think, no?
“This is the way the contract was done, I don’t know. You’d have to ask Audie [Attar] on all of that.
“I’m like: ‘Huh? Just give me the f***ing contract.’ It gets to that stage. I have 11 July, it’s only round the corner.
“Yep, that’s positivity, happiness, don’t wanna go too much on all that [other stuff]. I’ve got the fight, I’ve got the date. I feel great.
“Bring it on, baby. The Mac is back, and I’m gonna put on a show here in this fight.”
McGregor’s rematch with Holloway will be his first fight since he was found civilly liable for assaulting Nikita Hand at a Dublin Hotel in December 2018, which he vehemently denied doing.
He lost his appeal of the verdict turned in at Dublin’s High Court in November 2024.
And the Supreme Court rejected the MMA star’s bid for a further appeal last December.
