Twidale, who missed a 3-point attempt that could have sent Thursday’s game to a fourth overtime, was on target against the Eagles on Sunday as she hit 8 of 15 shots from beyond the arc and 11 of 18 overall. She also went 6-for-6 from the foul line and totaled a game-high nine assists.
Twidale’s 36 points were the most for a Cal player since Kristine Anigwe scored 37 against Houston on Nov. 6, 2018, and the eight 3-pointers were one shy of the school record set by Asha Thomas on Nov. 24, 2017.
“It’s always great when she knocks down shots,” Cal head coach Charmin Smith said of Twidale. “We’re really confident in her shooting. We want her to shoot every time she’s open. I like the fact that she had nine assists. I think she was looking for people to make plays, to get other people shots, and was really intentional and focused on being a playmaker in that way for us, and that’s really important.”
Cal (11-9, 2-5 ACC), which had lost four of its previous five games, bolted to a 21-10 first-quarter lead before Boston College trimmed its deficit to seven points at halftime. The Bears still led the Eagles (4-17, 0-8) by seven entering the fourth quarter, then used a 14-0 run that included four 3-pointers to pull away.
Syracuse 69, Stanford 58: Lara Somfai scored 17 points and Nunu Agara added 14 points and 13 rebounds, but the Cardinal (15-5, 4-3 ACC) were unable to overcome 35% shooting and 22 turnovers as they fell to the host Orange (16-3, 6-2).
Stanford led by one in the first quarter until a 3-pointer by Dominique Darius gave Syracuse a 17-15 lead with 2:55 left in the period. The Orange did not surrender the lead from there, holding an eight-point lead at halftime and after three quarters.
