With Carlos Rodon on mend, who gets boot from Yankees rotation?

Aaron Judge's absence has been the focus of the New York Yankees' concerns, and rightly so. The righty masher is the preeminent power hitter in the game, and his presence determines whether the Yankees are World Series contenders or also-rans. The pitching side has had its share of noteworthy injuries, too, and now that it's nearing full strength, manager Aaron Boone has a nice problem: Who stays and who goes? Carlos Rodon threw a side session Tuesday and could throw live batting practice next week, Boone said, per SNY.com. Coupled with Max Fried's return on Wednesday, the Yankees could be close to getting their star-studded rotation of Cam Schlittler, Rodon, Fried and Gerrit Cole back to form. That's going to shuffle somebody into the bullpen. Eleven pitchers have started games for New York this season, led by Schlitter's 21 starts. Ryan Weathers and Will Warren have thrown the most innings as starters after Schlitter, with mixed results. Weathers' underlying statistics might be slightly better with a lower WHIP and higher strikeouts per nine innings, but he's 3-7, which is hard to overlook. Warren made the second relief appearance of his career on Wednesday in New York's 2-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, so Boone may have been trying out the 27-year-old righty in the role. Of course, relying so heavily on three pitchers over the age of 30, the Yankees are never far from another rotation injury, so whatever move is made might be a temporary one.
