The New York Mets have added Bo Bichette, Marcus Semien, Jorge Polanco and Luis Robert to their lineup this offseason, but their needs in the rotation remain. With Framber Valdez still available, the Mets could look to sign him. However, the trade market also has an ace reportedly available. The Milwaukee Brewers are reportedly listening to offers on Freddy Peralta, and the Mets are among the interested teams, according to Jon Heyman. David Stearns was the Brewers' general manager when the team acquired Peralta from the Seattle Mariners. The two-time All-Star is coming off a career year and will be a free agent after the season. Making just $8 million next season, the Brewers know he has great trade value and that they will likely not be able to afford him after this year. According to MLB reporter Michael Marino, the Brewers have made an offer to the Mets in exchange for Peralta. "Jonah Tong’s name briefly came up in talks with the Brewers about Freddy Peralta before the Mets quickly ended that discussion," wrote Marino on X. "The Brewers have since submitted an offer, Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams for Freddy. The Mets have been unwilling to pay that price." Williams and Sproat are both top-five prospects in the Mets organization. However, it's no surprise the Brewers want Tong. He has years of control and is No. 46 on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 Prospects list. Stearns may not be willing to give up two of the organization's best prospects for one year of control of Peralta. Williams is No. 30 on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 Prospects list. He is close to a debut and could give the Brewers an option in the infield or outfield. Joey Ortiz struggled at shortstop offensively last season, and the third outfield spot could be up for grabs in Milwaukee as well. Garrett Mitchell has not proven he can stay healthy and Blake Perkins is not a great hitter. Jackson Chourio and Sal Frelick figure to be regulars in the outfield with Christian Yelich at designated hitter. Williams fits the Brewers mold as well. He steals a lot of bases, is a versatile defender and got on base at a .363 clip last season. He spent most of his time at shortstop last season, and if he can provide better offense than Ortiz, the Brewers could consider starting him there.
