There was no movement in the top 10 in the final ranking of the regular season. Auburn stayed at No. 6 despite a 1-3 week that included a loss at Jacksonville State and a series loss at home to Georgia, the SEC champs. The Tigers had won their previous six series, including at Texas A&M — the team right behind them in the ranking — just two weeks ago.
Two teams dropped out: Oklahoma and Boston College. The Sooners’ fall from No. 18 might seem a bit harsh after losing two of three at home to Tennessee, but they lost their final three series of the season. Boston College lost six of its final seven to end the regular season. There’s no shame in getting swept by Georgia Tech, even at home, but the Eagles weren’t competitive, losing the three games by a combined score of 38-3.
The two new teams are Arizona State, which won two of three at Houston to finish 19-11 in the Big 12, and Tennessee, which closed the season with series wins over Texas and Oklahoma to climb to .500 in the SEC.
