After the Minnesota Timberwolves struggled to take down the NBA Champions, the team will head into the matchup against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday without the star guard, Anthony Edwards.
Lately, Edwards has been dealing with knee soreness.
When the Timberwolves entered the March 13 matchup against the Golden State Warriors, Edwards was listed as questionable. Despite dealing with soreness, the veteran guard checked in and had a major performance.
In 37 minutes, Edwards shot 13-22 from the field, 4-9 from three, and 12-12 from the free throw line. The veteran guard accounted for 42 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. The Timberwolves dominated the undermanned Warriors with a final score of 127-117.
In the following game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Edwards was once again questionable but cleared. Edwards produced 19 points, five assists, and six rebounds. The Timberwolves came up short with a 116-103 loss.
Absences are rare for Edwards, but this year, the Timberwolves have a 10-game sample size of playing without their All-Star guard.
In those matchups, the Timberwolves are 6-4. They score around the same points per game, while shooting just as well from the field as a collective.
When Edwards is on the court this season, he produces like a top guard in the NBA. In 58 games, he has shot 49% from the field to average 29.5 points per game. He also comes down with 5.1 rebounds per game, along with 3.7 assists per game.
The Western Conference is tight once again. Beyond the top two seeds, three through seven are teams that are within at least four games of each other. At 41-27, the Timberwolves hold the same record as the Denver Nuggets. They are just two games away from the third-seeded Los Angeles Lakers. The seventh-seeded Suns trail Minnesota by two games.
The Timberwolves and the Suns are set to meet in Minneapolis for an 8 PM ET tip on Tuesday.
