It was a busy night for the AFL on Wednesday as clubs around the league selected made their Draft selections for the upcoming season.
But there was an X-rated moment during the proceedings when former Gold Coast Academy star Leo Lombard was snapped up.
Lombard, 18, is the son of former UFC light heavyweight fighter Hector Lombard.
St Kilda had shown an interest in the 179cm midfielder during the evening and had bid for the 18-year-old star with their ninth pick.
Already knowing the exceptional goal-kicking talents of the midfield star, Gold Coast subsequently matched their bid and would go on to land their man.
He was handed his Gold Coast jumper by Jake Rogers, who was signed to the Suns last year and is a close acquaintance of Lombard's.
'I’ve always looked up to him and he’s pretty much my bigger brother,' Lombard said, after stepping up to the stage for an interview with Fox Footy presenter Ben Dixon.
Lombard has been with the Gold Coast Academy since he was 12, and thanked the Suns for helping him on his footy journey.
'They have looked after me on and off the field, and it holds a special place (in my heart) for sure.'
He also took a moment to pay his gratitude to his family and girlfriend, but the interview subsequently went a little off track after that.
Members of the audience began clapping the midfielder before.
Lombard appeared to laugh the moment off, putting his hand over his mouth before shaking hands with Dixon and leaving the stage.
Former St Kilda great Leigh Montagna added: 'We’ll give him a pass. He’ll learn from that one.'
Lombard is an explosive player and has proved to be one of the standout stars in the Sun's academy crop in 2024.
His dad, Hector, has an MMA fight record of 34-10-1, having fought in the Ultimate Fighting Championship 12 times during his professional career .
