A big part of becoming a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader is fitting the look. For aspiring rookies, the audition process includes a trip to the salon for a makeover — some having subtle enhancements and others seeing much more dramatic transformations. On CMT's , DCC director Kelli Finglass explained that the makeover day is "where we look at each rookie candidate individually and help kind of design the best hairstyle cut and color for her unique look." "This can establish their look forever as a DCC,” Finglass said. When season 3 of America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders premiered on Netflix on June 16, viewers saw a new group of rookies head to the salon for their makeovers, including one candidate — Savanna Dastrup — who Tangerine Salon hair stylist Kevin Ozowski was determined to turn into a strawberry blonde. Below are 5 of the most dramatic Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders makeovers. In season 8 of Making the Team, rookie candidate Paige Cavalieri underwent a huge hair change when Finglass had her bring back her natural curls after wearing it straight. “She's got this wave in here that she's been hiding,” Finglass said to the stylists, adding in a confessional that she wanted "to see Paige's natural curl because there's something that I've always said is spunky about her.” Once she was done with styling, Cavalieri revealed bouncy, mid-length curls. “Paige was more than a surprise,” Finglass said. “She was a shock.” Cavalieri was thrilled with her look — not only because it showcased her natural look, but also because it was much easier to style. "The fact that she liked my curls is amazing because it takes me 20 minutes to do, which is a lot easier than the other styles and this is just, it's just me,” she said. Cavalieri made the squad and was a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader for several seasons. In season 1 of America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders , rookie candidate Kelly Villares went from brunette to blonde. Initially, the cheerleader said she was "nervous," but that she trusted "what they have in mind." "Anything to give me that Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader look," Villares said. Speaking to her mom over the phone and showing her the finished look, Villares said she just had to "get used to" her new hairdo. Villares was cut during training camp, but eventually made the team as a comeback girl the following year for the 2024-25 season and has continued being featured on America's Sweethearts for all three seasons. America's Sweethearts alum KayDianna MacKenzie (also known as KayDianna Garza) had her rookie makeover featured in season 16 of Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team. Finglass told the hairstylists that MacKenzie had been dancing with "a massive head of hair" prior to her makeover. Then, the hairstylist asked the cheerleader how she would feel if they took out her sewn-in extensions and worked on bringing her natural curls back. "It would be a relief on my neck to lose my hair to be honest," MacKenzie said. The cheerleader said she loved the final product, while Finglass called it "more exciting than I ever would've imagined." "This is the makeover of my dreams," MacKenzie said. "I think this hairstyle really shows my bubbly personality." MacKenzie made the team and stayed for four years, though left the squad in the midst of season 2 of the Netflix docuseries following a suspension. Before the rookie makeovers, Courtni Shea had never colored her hair, which was originally an ashy brown color. “Any new color will be an adjustment,” she said on Making the Team season 8. The styling team decided to go red to complement her green eyes, which was a big change — but one she was happy about. "Don't you feel like I should have been a redhead since birth?" she asked Finglass. The DCC director said that Shea's makeover was "great." "If her dancing doesn't demand attention now, her hair now will," Finglass said. Shea made the squad and became a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, but was cut the following year, which was featured in season 9 of Making the Team . In season 6 of Making the Team, Finglass decided that rookie hopeful Taylor Lowery needed an edgier look for her makeover. She wanted Taylor’s extensions removed and to create a shorter look inspired by Reese Witherspoon and Jessica Simpson . The end result was an edgy, long bob with dramatic layering. “I love Taylor's makeover,” Finglass said on the show. "It's exactly what I had hoped for.” Lowery, however, instantly hated the look, joking that she "just [needed] a Harley to drive home on." "I hated it so much. I wanted to just like run away,” she said in a confessional. “If I were to get cut, I may come straight to the salon the next day and get some new extensions put in.” Lowery eventually warmed up to look and said it fit her personality. However, she didn't make it past training camp.
