NEW YORK – Why did Pedro Avila get the 13th and final spot on the Guardians’ American League Championship Series pitching staff instead of Ben Lively and Nick Sandlin? Manager Stephen Vogt, first of all, said it was a difficult choice. Lively went 13-10 with a 3.81 ERA in 29 starts for Cleveland during the season. Sandlin went 8-0 with a 3.75 ERA in 68 relief appearances.
