LERONE MURPHY has made a worrying title shot admission ahead of the biggest fight of his career.
The Manchester ‘Miracle’ put himself on the cusp of becoming only the sixth Brit to fight for an undisputed UFC title last August with a viral KO of Aaron Pico in Chicago.
Many thought Murphy’s sensational first-round spinning-back elbow stoppage would earn him the next crack at champion Alexander Volkanovski.
That, however, didn’t prove to be the case, with the next title shot being an ill-fated one for Diego Lopes in February.
Murphy, instead, has had to make do with what many believe is an unofficial No.1 contender fight with the undefeated Movsar Evloev in the main event of UFC London on Saturday night.
But worryingly for Murphy, he’s not received any indication that he’ll be next up for Volkanovski if he gets the job done at the O2 Arena.
During an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, he said: “At this point, words are wind.
“It’s like the division’s forever changing and it’s a performance based company.
“Someone’s got to go out there and put on a good fight and then it’s nothing’s concrete.”
Staying in the ranks of the unbeaten with a decision win over Evloev, which would be his TENTH victory in a row, may not be enough for Murphy to get the nod from the UFC brass.

But the 34-year-old doesn’t agree with that notion, saying: “I believe the matchmakers know what type of matchup this is.
“I think it would be unfair to say you’ve got to go out there and get a crazy knockout to get the title.
“Everybody knows what type of fight this is going to be and what type of fighter I’m fighting against.”
