Former NFL star Shannon Sharpe has come under fire after a guest on his podcast made outrageous remarks about Taylor Swift's 'surfboard body.' The legendary tight end hosted comedian Mark Normand on his Club Shay Shay podcast this week. However, the conversation took a vulgar turn when Normand unjustifiably dragged the pop star and her physique into the discussion. The pair were discussing Travis Kelce's past and present relationships when Normand began to compare the 'Opalite' hitmaker to the Kansas City Chiefs star's ex-girlfriend, Kayla Nicole. The comedian noted the differences in the two women's appearances, claiming it was 'quite a jump in type' between the influencer and the songstress. 'We've seen his exes. Compared to old surfboard body here. I mean, not to besmirch the lady, but that's quite a jump in type,' Normand said, referring to the pop sensation. In an apparent attempt to steer the conversation in a more positive direction, Sharpe interjected, saying: 'I only know that was his last girl. I don't know anybody that he dated before her - Kayla. 'But sometimes I think the people that (say), "Oh, he fumbled. He fumbled." I mean, if somebody makes you happier, is that a fumble?' However, despite admitting that it was not a 'fumble,' Normand continued his crass attack on Swift. 'But I wonder if he misses that fat a**. I think [Swift] should get a BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift),' he despicably added. Sharpe laughed before replying: 'No, that doesn't fit with what she's got going on.' Kelce had a five-year on-again, off-again romance with model Nicole before eventually calling it quits in May 2022. He began dating Swift in the summer of 2023, going on to pop the question to the A-lister last August. Normand's vile remarks sparked backlash from Swift's loyal fanbase on social media, with many questioning why he felt he had the right to comment on women's bodies. Many also turned on Sharpe as they blamed him for allowing his podcast guest to openly talk about Swift in such a demeaning manner. 'Trash. Shannon betraying his long friendship with Kelce by disrespecting his fiancée is disappointing and unexpected. They don’t make loyalty like they used to,' one social media user wrote, replying to a clip of the conversation on X. 'Why would you even discuss another woman's body?' another questioned. 'It is very disappointing and very sad to see. What's more embarrassing (is) to highlight (sic) this part of the interview.' 'Why do men feel so comfortable suggesting surgeries for women who didn’t ask?' a third asked. Another branded the discussion 'weird' and 'uncalled for,' while a fifth claimed it was 'disgusting,' adding that the decision to post the specific moment to the Club Shay Shay X account was 'bizarre.' 'The audacity of speaking on a woman who is BILLION times more successful than you. Flop behavior,' another fumed, referring to Swift's enormous fortune. '@ShannonSharpe WOW, just when I thought you were a good friend to [Travis Kelce]… this just shows you are a bad person and have no love for Travis. You are disgraceful and a horrible human being,' one social media user wrote. 'Shame on you for talking about women this way. You know Travis has called you a mentor and a friend, and yet you are giving space for this type of conversation about his fiancée,' added another, taking aim at Sharpe. '[I don't know] what’s more disgusting, this guy talking or @ShannonSharpe posting this. Truly repulsive,' claimed another furious user. Swift, who stunned in glitzy costumes during the Eras Tour, has been open with her own struggles with eating and her body image in recent years. The 14-time Grammy Award winner famously discussed struggling with her perception of her weight and the standards of physical beauty women face in her documentary Miss Americana, which was released in 2020. She recalled when looking at photos of herself she would 'feel like I looked like my tummy was too big, or... someone said that I looked pregnant and that'll just trigger me to just starve a little bit – just stop eating'. Swift added: 'If you're thin enough, then you don't have that a** that everybody wants.' 'But if you have enough weight on you to have an a**, your stomach isn't flat enough. It's all just f***ing impossible.' In 2022, she also sparked headlines after the music video of her single 'Anti-Hero' saw Swift step on a set of scales which says 'fat' as her alter ego reprimands her. Given Swift's public comments about her struggles with body image, many of her fans, dubbed 'Swifties,' viewed Sharpe's podcast as a betrayal of his friendship with her fiancé, Kelce. The Denver Broncos legend has shared a close bond with Kelce for a number of years, acting as a mentor for the younger tight end. The Hall of Famer has even publicly regarded Kelce as the greatest tight end to play in the NFL, while the three-time Super Bowl winner has welcomed Sharpe's guidance.
