Nick Siranni was widely criticized after his defiant display of emotion towards Eagles fans on Sunday - but Jason Kelce is standing by his ex-coach. Following a hard-fought 20-16 home win over the Browns, Siranni taunted the home fans by putting his finger to his ear after frequent booing during the game. And while Sirianni has since admitted to the error in his ways, Kelce offered a defense of his former boss on ESPN's Monday Night Countdown ahead of the Bills' win at the Jets. 'He's passionate,' Kelce said. 'He loves his guys, he loves his team ... Obviously he knows that was not the right way to handle that situation, and everybody knows it, that was inappropriate. 'But this is a guy that knows that his energy is going to feed the football team. And the team said that in their postgame interviews, [defensive end] Brandon Graham said we need the Nick Sirianni back. 'That energy, even though it comes out in the wrong ways sometimes like at the end of that game - and I am a victim of that myself, trust me, I am very happy there has not been a camera on me sometimes either at the game or after the game - if that is going to get the best out of him, that emotional energy that he can then infuse into other people, I'm all for it.' Despite Sirianni's 37-19 record with Philly, his relationship with Philly fans has been complicated since the team went 1-6 to finish last season (including playoffs). And on Sunday, as the Eagles struggled to outscore the struggling Browns, some in the crowd even called for Sirianni to be fired. Sirianni admitted afterwards that his postgame reaction towards fans missed the mark. 'I was trying to bring energy yesterday,' Sirianni said in a press conference on Monday. 'Energy, enthusiasm. And I'm sorry and disappointed [for] how my energy was directed at the end of the game.' 'My energy should be all in on coaching, motivating, and celebrating with our guys,' he added. 'I gotta have better wisdom and discernment of when to use that energy. And that wasn't the time,' Sirianni claimed. Regardless, the win helped the Eagles move to 3-2 on the season and they'll hope to continue the momentum on Sunday vs. their NFC East rivals the Giants.
