Dana White addresses Conor McGregor injury question at UFC OKC

Conor McGregor suffered a devastating first-round loss against Max Holloway at UFC 264 in what had the potential to be an epic comeback fight after five years away. A TKO/stoppage occurred early into the bout, after McGregor attempted a jumping kick towards Holloway, and seemingly hurt his knee or leg. From that point on, he was unable to keep much weight on his injured leg and continued to fall to the mat. Ultimately, the referee threw up the sign to stop the fight, awarding Holloway the win in their sequel bout. During this weekend's UFC Oklahoma City event, the president and CEO of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Dana White, responded to a question about the exact injury McGregor is dealing with. "ACL," White said after asking someone off camera at the media session. "His knee is [expletive] up." Soon after the fight ended in the octagon, a disappointed and frustrated McGregor left through the crowd and later limped outside, showing the effects of the injury. His opponent said they would have to set up a trilogy fight in the future, since it's now 1-1 in their two meetings. McGregor has since shared update messages and videos on social media, suggesting he'll make another comeback. Unfortunately, it will be a long road to recovery for the 38-year-old UFC star. His previous fight against Dustin Poirier in 2021 also ended with a difficult injury. McGregor suffered a broken leg in the first round of that fight, and then was on a lengthy absence from fighting. His return was heavily hyped and drew a record-setting gate, but then ended with an underwhelming performance from McGregor in the main event. Seeing him lose in 69 seconds was disappointing for many people who might have hoped to see more of a fight in the MMA star's return. And now there may be a wait until the end of next year or longer, until McGregor gets another fight, if that happens. Typically, a torn ACL can take anywhere from six to 12 months for a full recovery. That would seem to indicate it'll also be a long time before anyone sees McGregor potentially back in the octagon, and some believe there will be much less interest in another comeback attempt.
