One of the biggest questions to come out of UFC 329 — aside from how serious is Conor McGregor’s knee injury — was whether or not McGregor was injured before the fight even happened.
This theory gained some traction on social media when a video started making the round showing McGregor stumbling during after his walk to the Octagon while trying to take his shoes off.
Some pointed to that video as proof the brash Irishman actually injured his right knee before stepping into the cage to fight Max Holloway.
But now, everyone knows the truth. McGregor responded to questions from fans on X on Friday, and one of them addressed this very issue.
“Looked like you were having issues with your knee prior to fight,” one fan asked.
McGregor replied: “More nonsense. I had zero issue. The taking off of my shoe at octagon side, a sweaty foot, without a sock on, pulling off the shoe with the ball of my free foot. It was a brief disbalance. If even.”
McGregor lost his return fight after five years away due to TKO just 69 seconds into Round 1 after the referee waived it off when McGregor couldn’t put weight on his right knee, which he seemingly inured in the opening moments of the fight after a botched attempt at a leaping roundhouse kick.
That gaffe was also addressed by McGregor on Friday.
“A foot too early for sure. Never going to work, I disagree. The eagerness/rush out the gate is what 5 years out of the game will do. Noted and corrected. I’ll get it right. I’m getting closer, that is my mindset,” McGregor stated in response to a fan who questioned attempting a full sprint leaping attack after such a long layoff.
McGregor announced earlier this week he plans to have surgery and return to finish the final fight on his UFC contract. The former two-division champion in on record stating he wants that fight to be a rematch against Holloway.
