Conor McGregor names who he wants as his next UFC opponent

One of the more hotly debated topics in UFC circles the last few days is who should be Conor McGregor’s next opponent when he returns from the knee injury that ended his UFC 329 fight against Max Holloway 69 seconds into the first round. McGregor confirmed he plans to have surgery to repair the damage and return to finish the final fight left on his UFC contract. There’s no timetable for the 38-year-old Irishman to return to the Octagon, but many assume it will be sometime in 2027 if he did tear his ACL — an injury that typically has a 9-12 month recovery timeline. Some fans have said they want to finally see the McGregor-Michael Chandler fight they were robbed of back in 2023. Others have said stated they want an immediate rematch with Holloway, and some have even advocated for a McGregor-Ilia Topuria bout before the former calls it a career. But if it were up to McGregor himself, there’s just one fighter he wants a crack at. “Would you like your last fight to be Vs Chandler or Poirier? If not is there anyone else? Also heal up well and let us know about what the extent of the injury is when you can,” a fan asked McGregor. McGregor replied: “It has to be Holloway.” A trilogy fight between the two makes a lot of sense. McGregor won their first fight back in 2013 — a three round unanimous decision in McGregor’s second fight with the UFC. Holloway got a TKO victory in their second meeting, though McGregor has since called for that bout to be ruled a no contest instead of a loss.
